Destination Dawson

DEPARTS FROM TOK ALASKA TO DAWSON CITY YUKON

2008 will be the 15th year the Trek is involved with the Alaska Trailblazers. Once again three runs will be departing Tok, Alaska for Dawson City. There is the potential for 230 participants on each run.

Each of the runs leave from Tok, Alaska and follow the Taylor and Top of the World Highways. The trail is groomed depending on weather conditions at the Top due to the extreme weather conditions. The ride in this area can be challenging. The weather can also be a factor in your ride and you should be prepared. The Canadian side is now groomed with thanks to the Dawson Snow Trails Association.

On your arrival to Dawson City each participant is personally greeted in Dawson. This tradition has been going on since the beginning and will continue to ensure that all snowmobilers arrive safely. This year the welcoming will take place at the Visitors Information Center located on Front Street. At the Center you will meet Laurie and Monna and receive your welcoming package. Canadian Border Services will also be present to clear you for Customs and Immigration. From here you will take your sleds to your accommodations where you can relax and prepare for the weekend.

Lunch will be awaiting you at Diamond Tooth Gerties on Friday and Saturday. After lunch the day is left for you to relax or visit the local shops and tour the town. The Dawson City Museum will be open. The evening has you return back to Diamond Tooth Gerties for a steak barbecue prepared by the Dawson City Fire fighters. Followed by this excellent meal there is live entertainment and, of course, the slot machines and tables are opened for you to try your luck.

The next day we have lunch for you at Diamond Tooth Gerties. For the afternoon the Dawson City Sled Dawgs will be having a local Poker Run with a new route.Do not forget that Saturday night is HAWAIIAN NIGHT. Bring along your shorts and colourful shirts. Prizes awarded for best dressed.

In the evening a catered banquet by the Downtown Hotel is held at Gerties followed by entertainment and gambling and of course the numerous door prizes donated by the businesses of Dawson and Alaska. The Trek also has a draw on the last evening where three lucky winners will be taking home some "Klondike Gold Jewelry".

Over your visit we want you to relax and enjoy Dawson's hospitality. The local businesses appreciate your visits and, as I can attest, many friendships are made. It's great to see our repeat visitors and of course all our first timers.

The Alaska Trailblazers Snowmobile Club out of Tok, Alaska are responsible for the registrations. They can be contacted at 907-883-SNOW(7669).
